Ruben Östlund will firstly lead the jury in Cannes, and then comes to Ponta Lopud
He will lead the jury at the 76th Cannes Film Festival
Swedish Oscar winner Ruben Östlund will take a break from making films this summer. The director of the films The Square and Triangle of Sadness has a busy schedule.
After triumphing at the European Film Awards in December, Östlund is one of the most sought-after European filmmakers. So in May, he will be the jury at the 76th Cannes Film Festival. Afterwards, he is coming to the Ponta Lopud festival as a special guest.
"For me, filmmaking is a joint venture, a social gathering, and that's exactly why I enjoy it. The intimate atmosphere offered by Ponta Lopud is a great opportunity to meet colleagues and friends, talk about film work and find inspiration. I'm really looking forward to it!", said Ruben Östlund on the eve of his arrival at the third edition of the Croatian film festival. This year, Ponta Lopud will be held from June 20 to 24.
A place for socializing and learning
Ponta Lopud, which takes place as its name suggests on the island of Lopud near Dubrovnik, has in a short time positioned itself as an important part of the Croatian film scene. With its different concept, where the emphasis is not so much on showing films as on socializing and educating young filmmakers, it helps film professionals gain new experiences and create long-term professional and friendly relationships. As they point out from the festival, "in the inspiring environment of peace and unique beauty of the island of Lopud, along with local cuisine, they have the opportunity to have conversations about film, visual art and the art of living the way it has been done here for centuries".
In this spirit, at the Ponta Lopud Festival, the Swedish director will hold a masterclass and impart knowledge to young filmmakers.
In Cannes, however, Ruben Östlund will have a completely different task. The chairman of the international jury will decide who will win the Palme d'Or this year. He is very competent for that. In his showcase, he already has two Golden Palms, won in 2017 with the film The Square and last year with Triangle of Sadness. For the latter, he was nominated for an Oscar this year in the category of best director.
This year, the Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 16 to 27. Read the full article at KINO FILM.HR
